NOW Foods #NowHelloSummer + GIVEAWAY

Last week I was invited to an event at the NOW Foods test kitchen in Bloomingdale. I've been a fan of the company's essential oils for a while and it was neat to learn all about their food division. The kitchen is headed up by Chef Suzy Singh, who was a contestant on Master Chef a few years back.

As soon as all the bloggers arrived we were treated with Righteous Raspberry Watermelon Coolers and Chef Suzy took us outside to see the NOW Foods organic garden, which backs to a serene pond. I completely forget we were steps away from the Stratford Mall parking lot!

Side note... how cute is Chef Suzy?!? She's 8 months pregnant, which you'd never guess by the amount of energy she has!

After the tour we all sat down and learned more about NOW and the different food products they offer (over 1,400 items!).

The food division of NOW Foods is divided up into 3 different brands: NOW Real Food, Living NOW and Ellyndale, with foods ranging from grains, oils and even drink mixes. From my short visit with NOW Foods it was obvious that everyone who works there is passionate about making the best food possible. Foods made from wholesome ingredients that taste delicious! 100% of the products they offer are non-GMO and most are organic.

Next on the agenda was an oil testing, something I'd never done before. Did you know that to properly taste an oil you have to slurp it through your teeth as loudly as you can?? It was funny to hear us all try it!

The two cups with spoons were their new Coconut Infusions- flavored coconut oil! We tried the butter and garlic flavors. You can use the butter flavor as an actual butter replacement (Chef Suzy said she uses it in her eggs all the time) and the garlic was delicious spread on a piece of bread.

For dinner we made vegan Quinoa and Chia Sliders with Lime Kale Chips. Each blogger was assigned a different task in completing the meal- I was in charge of making the avocado puree for the sliders.

Dinner took a good 45 minutes to prepare, I got to use a Vitamix for the first time, it was thrilling! Once we started grilling the sliders the kitchen became very aromatic and I couldn't wait to try everything.

OHEMGEE, everything turned out amazing! New-to-me ingredients included chia seeds (they acted as the binder for the sliders and were totally undetectable) and kale. I'd always wanted to try kale, just for one reason or another I hadn't. So glad I did, the chips flavored with lime zest were great! I will definitely be making some of my own soon.

The sliders were so flavorful and filling. And, I must say, the avocado puree was the perfect touch! For dessert Chef Suzy prepared a gluten-free Berry Rhubarb Pie. The crust, for being gluten-free, was surprisingly flaky and the sugar-free filling was nice and sweet!

The event was a lot of fun and it was nice connecting with other bloggers in the area. From left to right:

  8. I'm interested in trying the sugarless sugar, since I have an allergy to honey. It's hard to find good tasting non-GMO sweeteners. It would go nice with the righteous raspberry tea!
