Easter Eggs

Friday we had a little Easter egg dying party after Ant got home from work. The night before I "hard boiled" the eggs. I say that because I actually cooked them. I heard about this method a while back and decided to give it a go. All you do is put the eggs in the oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. I haven't cracked open any yet, but it seemed to work well!

I chose brown eggs this year after seeing how neat they look dyed.

After the gym Friday morning Harry and I stopped by Deerfield's Bakery for a few party treats.

While Harry napped I got the dye ready.

After Harry woke up and had a minor tantrum over who knows what, the party started. First we ate our cookies and then did the eggs. Two of each color.

The egg dying only held Harry's attention for a few minutes. After the first round the boys headed to the park while I finished up. Maybe he'll enjoy it more next year.

I hope everyone has a happy Easter! The Easter Bunny visited last night surprised Harry with a nice basket of goodies.

Good ol' EB also intended to get Harry a subscription to Highlights magazine, but it slipped his mind. Whoops... I'm sure one will show up soon ;).

Zoo Trip

Last Friday we took our first, of what will hopefully be many, trip to the Brookfield Zoo of the year. We bought a 15 month membership a few weeks ago and had been waiting for the perfect day to go. Ant took the train right from work, and after a much longer than expected drive, we met up about 2:30.

Harry took a nice long nap in the car, so I was expecting him to be the wonderful, well-behaved boy I know he can be. Ha! Not quite. He wanted nothing to do with his stroller almost from the beginning, so we fought him on that the whole trip. And he didn't want to hold our hands. He either wanted to push the stroller (without our help), or be carried. At one point I gave him a little bag of fruit snacks which kept him content in the stroller for a solid 10 minutes.

The highlight of the trip for me was seeing the dolphins. We've been to the zoo a bunch of times the last couple years and I always try to see their exhibit because dolphins are my favorite animal. But they're never super active in the underwater viewing area. Friday was a different story and it was amazing to watch them all! I'd love to see one of the dolphin shows but I'm not sure Harry would sit through it.

Dragons were the number one animal to see on Harry's list. Unfortunately for him, we didn't run in to any. But, he really enjoyed seeing the tigers, bears and especially the giraffes.

I brought my camera but didn't end up taking many pictures because Harry was being such a handful. Here are a few I did take.

Have a great weekend! And Happy Easter to those celebrating tomorrow!

Haven't done one of these posts for a while, so I thought it'd be a good way to to post about a bunch of random stuff.

The weather has finally started cooperating around here so we've been hitting up parks like crazy. Harry has a blast every time we go. His current favorite attraction is the slide. We were sticking to the little baby slides, which he likes, but recently graduated to the big twisty slide, which is like the best thing in the world according to him. He also likes the big boy swings now, too!

Once Upon A Child
Saturday we hit up our favorite kid's resale shop. We always take a box of stuff to sell and this time we made $35, which we promptly used on some new clothes for Harry. There wasn't much to choose from but we found some cute pieces. After the stuff we traded in, all this cost us just $15!

New Shoes
I've been wanting a new pair of gym shoes for a long time. My old ones were over 6 years old! I've been good and getting to the gym twice a week for a while so I figured I deserved some new kicks. Kohl's was having an athletic shoe event last week so I picked up a fun pair of Nikes. And the best part? They're only a size 9 :). I have clown feet and usually wear a 9.5-10.

Canceling Cable
After over a year of deliberating, Ant and I finally agreed to cut the cable. I was hesitant to do it because I enjoy watching the Today Show most mornings and the rabbit ear-type antennas don't work very well at our place. We found out that Comcast offers a super basic TV package that only includes 10 channels, so we recently switched to that. We no longer have HD channels and lost our DVR, but it's saving us a ton of money each month. However, we do get HBO for some reason. I don't miss the extra channels (the only other channel I used to watch was E!), but I really miss the DVR. We have Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime and Netflix, so we've still got plenty to watch around here.

Sunday I noticed the first leaves of spring! Always one of my favorite days of the year. And despite the harsh winter we had, they popped up over a week earlier than last year!

29 Months

I didn't take too many notes this month, but here are a few things about my nearly two and a half year old.

  • He sings the ABCs all day long. He knows all the letters but when singing he tends to skip a bunch in the middle.
  • Basically, he loves all songs. Aside from the ABCs, his favorite song of all time is What Does the Fox Say? Ya, that viral video everyone forgot about 5 months ago? We still watch the video once a day.
  • Last week Harry was running around singing "I will wait for you!" Which I thought was maybe a Daniel Tiger song or something. He said it was from the car, so after going over every song we'd heard on the radio earlier that day, I figured out he was singing that Mumford and Sons song. So now we watch that video once a day, too.
  • One thing that's been frustrating this month is Harry's eating schedule. He eats a big breakfast and lunch and has been asking for snacks all day long. I try to distract him so he's not always asking for food, but he's definitely been going through a growth spurt so I get that he's probably really hungry. Yesterday he was begging for lunch at 9:30am! Dinner, however, is a different story. He hardly ever eats more than a few bites of dinner, regardless of what I make.
  • Harry has become very particular about the collars on his pajamas. He's just like his daddy in that way. They both love tight collars around their necks and will even bunch the collar up under their chin to make it even tighter. Weird, but whatever!
  • An update on potty training. In short, he's still not really interested. We had a cute potty book, a cute potty, and cute underwear. We read the book all the time and he's sat on the potty a bunch. But nothing yet. However, the second time I put him in a pair of underwear he told me right away when his pants got wet, so that was progress from the first time.
