A Few New Things

This morning we did a bit of redecorating and reorganizing. I recently ordered a Keurig K-Cup organizer and it arrived today. I was excited to set it up!

LOVE it! The description on Amazon says the drawer can hold 36 K-Cups, but if you put in every other K-Cup upside down it can actually hold 42.

Last week I mentioned how Ant bought me some wall plaques. I finished painting them the other day and this morning Ant and I hung them up.

I'm really pleased with how they turned out! Before I painted them black they were like a cherry wood color. Pretty, but they didn't match. Speaking of not matching, I would love to paint the TV stand we have the printer on. Either that or replace it with something like this (hint hint, Antie-poo!).

And there's one more new thing at our house.

Harry can now fit in six month clothes! Well, they're still a bit big, but his three month stuff is getting tighter and tighter each day. My aunt bought him this cute outfit for Valentine's Day.

Oh, and I caught him sucking on his thumb this afternoon.

Grrrr. Neither Ant or I were thumb suckers, so I hope Harry didn't mysteriously inherit the thumb sucking gene.

Alright, off to get dinner started. I'm making lemon chicken tonight!

3.5 Month Check Up

That cutie pie was such a little trooper this morning; who woulda guessed that just an hour before I took this picture he was being poked with two large needles? He actually screamed a bit longer than last time after today's round of vaccines, but I think his empty tummy fueled a lot of the screaming.

The pediatrician was very pleased with Harry's growth! He now weighs 13 pounds 6 ounces and is 25.25 inches tall. That's the 50th percentile for weight and holy cow.... 90th percentile for height! The doctor said he never would have guessed he was four weeks premature. With being so on track the doctor suggested we stop giving Harry NeoSure and switch to regular infant formula. Originally he suggested that he stay on it for nine or ten months. Hearing that we could switch was music to daddy's wallet!

After our appointment we swung up to Carter's to use that $10 rewards card we earned yesterday. Today is the last day of the BOGO free sale so I wanted to take advantage while we still could. I picked out a pack of white onesies and a pack of "rock star" onesies, both in the nine month size.

When we got home I make Harry four ounces of Similac Advance; the company sent us a sample tub while I was pregnant. He drank it really quickly and was hungry for more so I made him two ounces of NeoSure. We've still got about three cans of the NeoSure so we're going to slowly switch him over to the Advance so we don't shock his system too much.

I took another video of Harry yesterday. This time he was playing on his playmat, enjoy!

Carters Sale + A Harry Video

This afternoon we went to the Carter's store to take advantage of the BOGO free sale. I also had a coupon for 20% off $40 or more and about $55 left on a gift card. Our $228 worth of stuff totaled out to be $92, but we only had to pay $45 since we had the gift card. And since we bought so much stuff we received a $10 gift card we can use next time.

We picked out mostly six and nine month sized stuff, but one of the packs of onesies is 12 month. Harry is growing like a little weed and I've already put away one three month outfit that's too small. A few others are starting to become snug as well so this sale came at the perfect time!

Harry's First Home Movie
I usually plop Harry in his crib while I make a bottle. Last night was no different, except instead of hunger screams he was babbling away! I quickly grabbed my DSLR and tried out the video feature for the first time.

It's a little blurry and looooong, but I'm so glad I was finally able to capture him on video! As he starts doing more things I'll try and take more videos.

Tomorrow morning we've got another doctor's appointment for Harry. I'm guessing he'll weigh around 13 pounds and be 25 inches long.

Garfield Park Conservatory

We had a fun filled day yesterday! A few weeks ago my friend Tracy told me about the Garfield Park Conservatory and I've been wanting to visit ever since.

After a measly 11 hours of sleep (!!!!!!!!), Harry woke up at 10am (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and we first headed to Oak Park for some lunch.

Ant found the Prairie Bread Kitchen online and thought it would be a perfect spot for some lunch. We both ordered sandwiches that were super yummy!

On our way back to the car we stopped by the Bleeding Heart Bakery for some cupcakes.

I got a chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting and Ant opted for the chocolate with raspberry frosting. So yummy! I love cupcakes that aren't very sweet, and the Bleeding Heart's had just the right amount of sugar. After we finished our cuppycakes we hopped back in the car and drove to the conservatory.

Wow, the conservatory was beautiful! If you're ever in Chicago I would highly recommend putting the conservatory on your to-do list. It is operated by the Chicago Park District and admission is free. Basically, the Garfield Park Conservatory is a gigantic green house. There are five or six rooms, each with a different theme. Our favorite was the desert room, which featured a wide variety of cactuses cacti.

I felt like a total dope for not bringing my new DSLR camera with me. I thought about it but didn't want the hassle of carrying my diaper bag and camera bag so I just brought my point and shoot. Nearly every other visitor had a DSLR, so if you have one, definitely bring it!

After we were done at the conservatory we headed in to the Loop. It was a nice day out so we walked around and eventually strolled in to the French Market. I had heard of this place but hadn't been there before. I was soooo tempted by all the yummy gourmet food but I was good and didn't get anything.

Our walk led us to Ant's office, who was excited to show off Harry to some of his coworkers.

The Ron Swanson bobble head doll was part of our Valentine's gift for Ant, he had been wanting it for his desk.

After we were done at Ant's work we headed home. Per what has become usual, Harry was a very good boy all day. He really didn't fuss once! I still don't know how we got so lucky with such an easy baby. And you guys know we'll be blessed with a spirited child the second child around :).

And moms don't forget, Carter's is having their BOGO free sale right now! We're planning on heading there later today. I've got a Carter's gift card that had been burning a hole in my wallet for a while now.

Harry's Birth Announcements

I've started crafting again! I used to post all my crafty stuff at my other blog, La Georgia Paperie, but it's a lot of work keeping up with two blogs so I decided to start posting the crafty stuff here. Obviously I'm not able to craft as often as I did before having Harry, but the few times I've been able to get my creative juices flowing have been great.

I'm currently working on some Save the Date cards for a friend from college and Harry was so sweet this afternoon and actually let me work for about an hour. I initially put him in his crib, but he didn't like that too much, so this is where he hung out.

Whatever works, right?

Birth Announcements
I didn't send out very many birth announcements. I had big plans to do all sorts of things with my Cricut for the announcements but when it came time to make them all I wanted to do was cuddle with my baby, so I simplified them a lot. But, I think they still turned out nice.

The "it's a boy" charms are from Michaels. And the picture I used was my favorite from our newborn photo shoot. It's so crazy looking back at those photos and seeing how much he's grown!

Oh, and no Flashback Friday this week. I forgot to go through my photos and pick something, whoops! Hopefully I'll have something ready for next week.

Belly And Baby Book Review

Right after I found out I was pregnant I purchased The Belly Book and My Baby Book, both by Amy Krouse Rosenthal.

I found out about these books from a mommy vlogger on YouTube. Throughout my pregnancy I had so much fun filling out The Belly Book every week and I now love filling out My Baby Book for Harry.

The Belly Book is divided in to three sections: first, second and third trimesters. Each trimester has sections for doctors appointments, cravings and aversions, ultrasounds and of course weekly belly pictures. There are also trimester-specific sections like how you found out you were pregnant, maternity clothes, finding out the sex of the baby, fetal movement, baby names and baby's arrival.

While I was pregnant I kept The Belly Book close to me at all times in case I thought of something I wanted to remember. We brought it with us to the hospital and I filled out the birth section in my postpartum room while Harry was in the NICU. When I was done filling it out I literally cried because it meant my pregnancy was really over. Why do you guys think I haven't posted my entire birth story yet? (I'm still debating on whether or not to ever post it because it's so personal.)

I started filling out My Baby Book before Harry was even born. Like The Belly Book, it's divided in to three sections: My Arrival, My First Year and My Gallery of Firsts.

My Arrival is obviously about Harry's birth. The section also includes information about mom and dad, the birth announcement (which I'll be posting about shortly), our house and the first few weeks as new parents. The My First Year section is pretty straight forward, a new page for each month. And the Gallery of Firsts has places to record when certain milestones happen like STTN, smiling, eating solids, crawling, etc.

I really like these books and would recommend them to all moms-to-be. They're kind of tongue-in-cheek which makes them a lot of fun to fill out. They also cover a wide range of topics and have plenty of room for pictures. If you're not into scrapbooking but still want to preserve your memories in a book these are a great alternative.

Disclaimer: The opinions expressed in this post are entirely my own. I was not compensated in any way and just wanted to share my love of these books with all of you!

Valentine's Activities

Yesterday morning I had my physical with the general practitioner. I really liked the doctor (recommended to me by my OB), she was super personable and spent a lot of time with me. I'm now on lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide (what a mouthful!) for my blood pressure; which thankfully I only have to take once a day. I have a followup appointment in two weeks to see how the medicine is working for me.

Getting pregnant again on this medicine isn't advised (it's been known to harm fetuses) so I'll be getting Mirena soon. We do want another child in the future but we'll have to do a lot more planning the second time around. When the time is right I'll switch back to the blood pressure medicine I've been on.

When I got home Ant, Harry and I exchanged Valentine's gifts. Ant got me a picture frame to put on my bedside table and Harry got me a little stuffed animal and pretty silver necklace that says "mom." I also received a bunch of chocolate and a pretty bouquet of roses.

Harry's and my gift for Ant didn't show up yesterday so I'm really hoping the package comes today. I had a feeling it wouldn't come in time so while I was getting my prescription filled at CVS I picked up an Old Spice body spray for him so he would at least have something on Valentine's.

For dinner we went all out and went to Qdoba, ha! Our favorite fast food Mexican restaurant was offering a BOGO free if you kissed someone. Seriously! I'm not above whoring myself out for free food, so kiss we did!

I hope everyone had a nice Valentine's!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you all have a great Valentine's Day! Harry and I ordered Daddy a present online that still hasn't arrived yet, whoops. I would think it'll get here by tomorrow so it won't be that late of a gift if it doesn't show up today.

So, I bit the bullet and decided to make a TAW Facebook page! I would be so thankful if you guys would "like" it. I just set it up so there isn't much on there yet but I'll be working on it and will try my hardest to keep it up to date.

Grammy Fashions

Good morning bloggy friends! I had a nice relaxing afternoon yesterday. Ant took Harry shopping so I had the house to myself for the first time in quite a while! Ant went back to JoAnn's and picked up some wooden wall plaques I couldn't stop thinking about since we were there on Saturday. They're don't match our decor so I will be painting them black. I'll be sure to post a picture as soon as they're finished.

Okay, now lets talk about the Grammys! I wasn't planning on watching them, but after the tragic news of Whitney Houston's death I was curious about how they were going to incorporate her in to the broadcast. And as usual, there were some crazy fashions!

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly Osbourne - The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Arrivals

Kelly knocked it out of the park for the second awards show in a row. I really like how the dress was cinched around her waist, it created a fabulous silhouette. My favorite part of her look though was her hair, I just loved the dusty purple hue. It's been a bit too grey for my liking lately, but the added purple was amazing.

Katy Perry
Katy Perry - The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Arrivals

I love pretty much everything Katy Perry wears, and last night was no exception. She was probably my favorite at the Grammys. I love how sleeves are so in style right now! I just wish she would have worn her hair in a different way. I liked the color, but I didn't like the style.

Singer Adele arrives at the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards held at Staples Center on February 12, 2012 in Los Angeles, California.
Adele's black sparkly number fit her like a glove, so flattering! I didn't like how washed out her makeup made her look, though. I really loved the dress she wore during her performance, too (see it here).

Kate Beckinsale

Why was Kate Beckinsale even at the Grammys? The droopy bow on her shoulder and droopy saddle bag on her hip evened out the dress in the most atrocious way. Asymmetry can be your friend, Kate!

You expect outrageous fashions at the Grammys, and Fergie Ferg was no exception this year. I liked the concept of the dress, but the idea was executed poorly. The collar seemed out of place and I would have put a one piece body suit underneath. Either that or used a low rise brief instead of one that went up above her belly button.

The picture speaks for itself on this one!

Taylor Swift

Take your thumb and cover Taylor's head and neck. Beautiful dress, right? The extra collar part and lack of bangs throw the whole look off.

Craft Store Visit

This evening we took Harry JoAnn's for the first time.

The first of many trips to come, I'm sure! I wanted to get a backdrop and props to take some cute Valentine's Day pictures. I ended up getting some St. Patrick's Day fabric as well for next month.

After JoAnn's we stopped by Wal-Mart to get some baby formula. Harry did really great the entire time we were out even though he started to get hungry when we were checking out at Wal-Mart.  I gave him a paci and he was fine until we got home and fed him.

We also got some Qdoba for dinner since the restaurant is right by the Wal-Mart and JoAnn's. And now we're just relaxing at home. I want to get some laundry done tonight and clean up the kitchen a bit before I go to bed. An exciting Saturday night at the Z house!

Harry's New Harry Book

When I was little  I always wanted there to be a "famous" Lindsey. I not-so-secretly wished Kristy would resign as president of the BSC and an even cooler girl named Lindsey would take her place. Alas that never happened and I had to wait around for Lindsay Lohan to star in The Parent Trap. And even then, her name is spelled wrong.

Even though he wasn't named after the boy wizard, I think it's cool that Harry has that connection with one of my favorite protagonists. Harry Z won't read about Harry P until he's at least five or six, so in the meantime I found a book I just had to get him on Zulily.

I knew nothing about Harry the Dirty Dog but it looked cute. I read the book out loud to Harry this morning and he just loved it! He kept cooing and smiling at all the pictures. Apparently there are a few other books about Harry the dog that I'd love to add to Harry's book collection.

Along with the book I ordered a batik sundress for myself on Zulily. I kept going back and forth between two sizes and chose to order the smaller size hoping to motivate myself to stay with Weight Watchers (I lost another pound and a half this week, btw!). Well, it's freaking huge on me! Thanks for the ego boost, Zulily. But, Zulily doesn't do returns or exchanges so I'm stuck with it. I wish I was a better seamstress so I could take it in, but I don't trust myself to do a good job and I don't want to pay someone else to do it. I guess I'll just put a fitted cardigan over it to try and hide how big it is. I ordered a few things from Totsy last week too; I really hope I did better with the sizes because I am wearing the same clothes week after week and need a few new things.

Crazy Face

This one is too good not to share.

Yep, I think "Crazy Face" pretty much sums up Flashback Friday this week! I don't remember much about this picture; my friend Tracy posted this on Facebook in college. I'm pretty sure this is from when I was in 7th grade (1997-98), and am guessing this was taken at school.

I do remember loving that sweater, it was either from The Gap or Old Navy. And those necklaces. Ohhh those necklaces! Mainly the smiley face one. That my friends, is a penny with a smiley face design cut out of it. I don't recall how I came upon that particular coin, but I thought I was so clever putting it on a chain and wearing it as a pendant. I wore that thing all of 7th and 8th grade. Such a trendsetter!

I'd love to see some other bloggers do Flashback Fridays, too! Feel free to use my banner if you'd like, but please link back to my blog if you do.

Mr. Smiley Pants & Such

I don't think he could be any cuter! Harry was in a great mood this morning and wouldn't stop smiling and talking to me. I think he's even starting to giggle a little. He is definitely a "morning person," which is weird because neither Ant or I are. Here are a few more pictures I took today.

Harry also recently discovered his hands and they are in his mouth all the time!

Updates On Me
The other day I finally managed to get to the salon for a haircut. It's a bit shorter than I would have liked, but the ends really needed to get chopped off. I also got my layers evened up so there's not so much length between them. I like the look I had before but it looked bad when I didn't do my hair, which is way more often than not these days.

I made a doctor's appointment for myself today. I'm going in on Tuesday to see a general practitioner about my blood pressure. I'm still taking the medication I was prescribed during my pregnancy but I haven't taken my blood pressure in a while. I should probably start doing that again so I can bring some numbers with me. I'm pretty positive I have pregnancy-induced chronic hypertension and I'm really hoping that I'll get put on a medication I only have to take once a day. I often have to get out of bed to take my pill because I'll forget.

Annnnd, I thought I could come up with at least three things about me to update on, but nope. I'm that boring. Oh well, I don't mind!

Walgreens Rant
We've got a Walgreens literally a quarter mile from our house. When it's nice out I like to walk over there if I need something. While I don't think Walgreens' print quality is the greatest, that's where I print out all my pictures since it's so convenient.  The Walgreens website used to have an option where you could print "digital size" photos. The "digital size" is 4''x5.3'' or something, so a bit shorter than your typical 4''x6''. That doesn't work well for picture frames but is great for scrapbooking and stuff since none of the image gets cropped out.

The "digital size" photos print out on a matte photo paper as opposed to the glossy paper regular prints are printed on. I much prefer the matte photos to the glossy, they're more true to color I think. DSLRs take pictures in 4''x6'' dimensions, but I've cropped them to "digital size" and they've printed on the matte paper. A little more work, but worth it in my opinion.

So this morning I printed out five photos for Harry's baby book. Most were from my DSLR and cropped to the "digital size," but one was actually taken with a point and shoot camera. All of the pictures were printed at 4''x6'' on the glossy paper. UGGH!

When stuff like that doesn't match it drives me nuts. Case in point: the other week I broke one of our salad plates. I had a replacement ordered within 15 minutes because I couldn't stand the thought of having only seven salad plates when I have eight of everything else. I know, I'm literally nuts. Soooo, having some glossy and some matte photos in Harry's baby book isn't sitting well with me.

So, Walgreens, bring back the "digital size," they're the best! Or, print your traditional size prints on matte paper.

That is all.

Some Healthy Meal Options

Healthy and easy! First up are English muffin pizzas.

I used Thomas' Triple Health English muffins, tomato paste, one shredded Weight Watchers string cheese and some canned mushrooms. Put the pizzas in the oven at 350 degrees for about 12 minutes. Two pizzas (one English muffin) are four Weight Watchers points.

This next one is microwaver's dream.

I've "made" this turkey meatloaf a few times now. It's nothing special but we think it tastes pretty decent. We estimated that half a loaf (it's really not that big) is seven WW points. Last time we had the meatloaf I paired it with some steamed broccoli.

Since learning how to steam broccoli it has become one of my favorite veggies. I used to just make frozen broccoli, which tastes completely different.

I never followed up with our challenge to eat out less we imposed on ourselves back in January. We did really well and only ate out on Friday nights. Ant finally came around and agreed with me that we'd been eating out too much so we're going to keep with it. Every once in a while we'll probably go out during the week but we definitely won't make it a habit like it was.

Three Months!

Harry is three months old today!

Here are his stats.

Weight: My best guess would be about 12.5 pounds
Height: At least 24 inches
Diaper Size: Size 1s, will try switching to 2s when we run out of 1s in about a week
Clothing Size: 0-3 month still, I think he'll graduate to the next size in 2-3 weeks
Eating: 4 ounces of Similac NeoSure 6-7 times a day

Here are a couple pictures during  his bath last night.

As you can see Harry's legs reach all the way to the other end of the tub now. Remember when he looked like this?

What a difference a few months make!
