Impromptu Photo Shoot

Just for the hell of it Harry and I did a little photo shoot yesterday. I guess we can call these his seven month pictures? I took him out to our lawn area before nap time so Harry wasn't that excited for me to take a bagillion pictures so most of them didn't turn out great. Here are my favorites.

I am still having a hard time getting great shots outside with my camera. I played with the settings a bit but I'm not super happy with how the lighting turned out. Any suggestions for taking great pictures on a bright, sunny day?

We're off to do a bit of shopping this morning and are hoping to try a new restaurant in the area for lunch, I can't wait!

  1. On sunny days like that use the flash. Seems crazy but I swear it will work.

  2. Use Manual :) Low ISO - 100 in most cases. Wide Aperture (2.8 - 5.6 depending on your lens) and fast shutter speeds (depending on aperture chosen).

Spot meter for exposure on Harry's face. The background can be blown out in places but you don't want his skin to be (which is why you're upset with the lighting, it's the highlights that are blown).

Anyway - try that and get back to me. Sorry Heather above, but NO FLASH! Your camera's good enough - you just need to know what you're doing with it :) :)

Last tip, if Harry's face isn't grabbing any catch lights (the little points of light in his eyes), grab a piece of your 12x12 white cardstock paper and hold it in front of you while you shoot so the light bounces up into his face.
