Solids Update

It's been just over three weeks since Harry started eating baby food. So far so good! He's tried avocados, sweet potatoes, carrots, zucchini, yellow squash and green beans. Plus the banana in the mesh feeder.

We're still just doing them once a day and he'll eat anywhere from two to four ounces. Yesterday he ate an ounce each of yellow squash, zucchini and sweet potato, plus a slice of avocado. His favorite foods so far seem to be the sweet potatoes and carrots. He likes the yellow squash, zucchini and avocados just fine, but doesn't care for the green beans. I've tried disguising the green beans with other foods and it's never quite worked! The beans didn't puree very well, so that's part of the problem. He might like them better when he starts eating finger foods.

I'm still making all his purees and the Beaba Babycook has been phenomenal! I really like using it. One thing to note: you can't make very large batches of food with it. For instance, it'll only fit one sweet potato or two zucchinis in the steaming basket. I actually prefer it that way, but I know a lot of people like to make a huge batch to freeze at once. Since we don't have very much freezer room I'm glad the Babycook prevents me from making too much!

Here's the stash I've got in my freezer right now.

Since he's not eating the green beans I would like to add another veggie in to his rotation. Butternut squash maybe?

I've also stopped adding formula to the purees. Harry likes the thick, chunky texture of the carrots and sweet potatoes. The zucchini and squash are more watery so when I made them I tried to blot as much of the water out before pureeing.

Along with a bunch of new fruits I think I'm going to give Harry yogurt soon. He does fine on the Similac Advance formula, which is dairy based, so I don't think he'll have a problem eating small amounts. I also need to start thinking about when to introduce him to meats. Ant and I only eat white meats and Harry will be no different. Although he certainly can try a pepperoni pizza or whatever at a friend's house when he gets older.

So, that's our solids journey thus far. It really has been so much fun. Harry's face lights up every day when I put him in his highchair, he knows what's coming!

Oh, and HOW THE HELL IS HARRY SIX MONTHS OLD ALREADY?!?!?!?!?!? His six month update and picture should be up later today.

On that note I leave you all with a couple pictures I snapped yesterday.

He wasn't really sleeping :)

Harry loves sitting up on the couch!
