You guys might recall we had a helluva time picking his middle name. When Harry was born we still hadn't figured it out, although we did have a handful of names we were considering.
|See you in another life, brotha|
I found the name Desmond on some baby names list. I mentioned it to Ant and he fell in love with it. I think the main reason he liked it so much was because of the show Lost, one of his favorites. Don't get me wrong, I like the name Desmond and I liked Lost (the Desmond-centric episode The Constant is seriously one of the best hours of television ever), but I was hoping to find a middle name that holds some significance to us.
Besides Desmond, we considered Boone, Cash and Clark, all of which are meaningful to us.
Boone is after Boone County, Missouri, where we met. We both attended college in Columbia, Missouri. Initially I suggested Columbia, but it's a little too out there for our taste, so we went with the county instead. Plus, Boone was a character on Lost, too.
Cash, is obviously after Johnny Cash. Right when we first started dating Ant burned me a CD (remember those?) of all his songs and I used "Walk the Line" and "Ring of Fire" as Ant's ringtones on my phone fooooorevvvverrrrrr.
The first time I went over to Ant's apartment (after conning him in to letting me do laundry) we watched Vacation. Chevy Chase's character, as many know, is named Clark Griswold.
There was actually one other name we would have liked to consider.
That's Truman the Tiger, the University of Missouri mascot. Both of us agreed that Truman is a great middle name, but definitely not with the first name Harry! Truman the Tiger was actually named after Harry Truman, who was from Missouri, so in a way (however unintentional) Harry's name does hold some significance to our relationship.
After Harry was born I was so exausted I looked to Ant and told him to pick the middle name when the nurse asked for it. As soon as I said that I knew his middle name would be Desmond, which I was kind of meh about, but at the time I didn't care. I do like the name Desmond, but I just really wanted his middle name to have meaning behind it. If I were to have chosen I think I would have called him Harold Boone.
Buuut, he's Harry Desmond and I think the name suits him just fine!
