Caught It!

I was finally able to catch Harry smiling on camera yesterday, at exactly 11 weeks old.

I've caught a few smile-like looks from him, but I'm pretty sure that is a genuine smile on his face! Over the past few weeks Harry has grown to love his activity mat, he smiles and coos every time I put him on it.

I'm still not sure if he's smiled at someone yet. He gave me a decent grin this afternoon, which was awesome of course, but it hasn't happened since (despite my incessant smiling towards him). Since speaking with our pediatrician yesterday I'm not concerned that he isn't smiling much yet, but I am getting impatient! His smile is just melt-your-heart adorable I want to see it all the time!

My 27 Years

Today is my 27th birthday. It's crazy because I remember getting my drivers license like it was yesterday, not 11 years ago!

It took me all night, but I managed to round up a picture from every year. Obviously this is a very picture heavy post, but I hope you enjoy! I had a lot of fun putting them together.

 I was 5 or 6 months old
 In Egypt, obviously
I think this was right outside our apartment in Saudi Arabia
Wrapped up like a little present
After a trip to a fancy salon where I got the "Shirley Temple"
 First day of kindergarten
 Ballet dance recital
 I know, I know, I look like a boy
My 8th birthday
 My first perm
My brother and I with our dog, Sheikh
 My 6th grade picture
In the Hollywood Hills, notice the Giga Pet on my belt loop
That sweater was from Express, loved it!
My freshman year picture
My brother and I on vacation in Missouri
 Sweet 16 party
Could my friend Tracy and I have found dorkier sailors to take a picture with?
Towards the end of senior year, taken with my first digital camera
The day I got my tongue pierced
 My sorority's formal recruitment
I gave a reading for the class of 1956 during Reunion Weekend
Rockin' the poof, 2007's hairstyle of the year
  At the Taste of Chicago
 With my Pearly Pie
34 weeks pregnant
Coming full circle with my own baby!

Whew, that's a lot of pictures! Sorry I had to do the "picture of a picture" thing, but doing that is way faster than scanning them all.

Harry's 11 Week Check Up

Mr. Happy and Healthy!

We made it to our doctor's appointment this morning after rescheduling it due to last Friday's snowstorm. Harry currently weighs 11 pounds 11 ounces (50th percentile) and is 23.75 inches long (75th percentile). He has officially doubled his birth weight!

Today we saw our original pediatrician (last month we saw the other doctor in the practice) and he said we shouldn't be concerned that he still isn't smiling and being interactive yet. He thinks we definitely should go by his adjusted age (based on his due date), so that would make him seven weeks old. That made me so much more comfortable with the way Harry is developing. The other doctor seemed to think we didn't need to adjust his age by much. He was also really happy that I've been putting Harry in his crib while he's still awake at night. Apparently that's the recommended way to do it? I had no idea about that, it's just what I've always done!

Harry also had to get three vaccines today: DTaP, Polio and Rotavirus. The Rotavirus vaccine was an oral medication that he seemed to enjoy taking! The nurse said it had some type of fruity flavoring in it. He of course hated getting the two shots and screamed a lot but was fine a few minutes after they were over.

Our next appointment is in a month and he'll be getting another vaccine then.

Happy Endings
Do any of you guys watch Happy Endings? Ant and I just started getting in to it. We went back and watched it from the beginning and are now a couple episodes in to season two. It's really funny! If you know the premise of Friends, you know the premise of Happy Endings. Except Joey is gay and Chandler isn't white.

Oh, and tomorrow's mah birthday!

Shopping Excursion

All week I was gearing up for today. The last time I left Harry for longer than an hour was way back at the beginning of December, so I was due for an afternoon alone. I chose to spend it grocery shopping! How exciting, right? Ant usually does the shopping so I was actually thrilled to get out of the house and hit up Super Target. I spent a little more money than Ant wanted me to, but it totally evens out since we're not eating out more than once a week anymore.

After my shopping trip I went home, picked up Harry and headed over to my dad's house. My car alerted me that my tire pressure was low so my dad pumped them up for me.

Photo Dump
And for your viewing pleasure, here are a few pictures. Harry's baby book has a spot for a winter picture so I thought this morning would be the perfect time to take one with all the snow we got yesterday. Isn't his little snowsuit adorable?

Ant's diaper bag somehow ended up on our glider. But that didn't deter Pearl from hanging out; it's one of her favorite places to sleep. Ant took this picture when I was out shopping.

And here's a selfie. Taken with my new Lightscoop, of course.

Lightscoop Lovin'

I can't say enough good things about the Lightscoop, so I'll let the pictures speak for themselves! Here's a photo I took of Harry without using it.

And here is one with the Lightscoop.

So much nicer, dontcha think? Both pictures were shot in Portrait mode on my new Canon T3i. Neither image was edited in any way. And just to further prove why everyone who has a DSLR needs a Lightscoop, here are a few more pictures I took with it on.

Watch It!
I rejoined Weight Watchers this morning. I'm still hanging out right around my prepregnancy weight, but just feel so much bigger than what I was before I had Harry. I signed up for the online program, which I don't like nearly as much as going to the meetings, but it's quite a bit cheaper. If you're interested in signing up, they've got an offer going on right now where it's $54 for three months. I think I might have to stop in to one of their centers though to pick up some of their smoothies since it doesn't look like you can buy them online anymore (I'm pretty sure you used to be able to).

Flashback Fridays

I've always taken tons of pictures. I have over 1800 pictures on my computer just from college. Since I have so many pictures, I decided to post one (or more) each Friday. Here is this week's photo.

That's me at five months old. That's me at five months old in a walker. That's me at five months old in a walker two feet away from a pool. After Ant and I moved in together my dad gave me a bunch of baby pictures; this is by far my favorite because of the ridiculousness. I don't have a story behind the picture or even know where it was taken (it's either California or Saudi Arabia). I've been wanting to share this one for a while, so there ya go!

If you're interested, I'd love to see other bloggers do Flashback Fridays, too. Maybe next week I'll make a button for it and allow people to link up through the post, if I can figure it out.

I was so excited to get my Lightscoop yesterday! It came highly recommended, and I can see why. Here's a picture I took last night without it.

And here is one after I attached the Lightscoop to my camera.

HUGE difference, right? I didn't edit these photos in anyway and didn't change the settings on my camera at all between taking the two (although I can't remember what the settings were!).

Oh, and we rescheduled Harry's doctor's appointment for Monday. A blizzard is on it's way and we'd rather not take him out in that kind of weather if we can help it.

WW Cheesy Straws

I was in a baking mood yesterday so I pulled out my Weight Watchers cookbook to see what I could make with stuff I already had in my kitchen. Here are the results.

Cheesy Straws! They're basically just cheesy breadsticks and were pretty simple to make and didn't require any crazy ingredients. According to the cookbook they're just two WW points per serving.

I did substitute regular cheddar cheese for the Taco Blend I had on hand and used I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Light instead of regular butter.  To make them I whipped out my food processor for the first time ever. It came with the blender I bought a few years ago. The food processor part just attaches to the blender base. The damn thing was pretty useless; everything got stuck on the sides. I ended up putting everything in a bowl and finished the dough that way.

Now I'm in the market for a new food processor. I've always been interested in making my own baby food and all the recipes I've read say to puree everything in a food processor. Unless my blender can puree apples and chicken breasts? I should probably look in to that.

On an  unrelated note, my Lightscoop should be here today! I also ordered an f/1.8 lens, camera bag with accessories and the Rebel T3i For Dummies book. I figured I deserved an early birthday present :).

Eating Too Much?

This is the definition of CUTE!

He's getting so big! And his hair growing back in which is nice, but I'm surprised at how dark it still is! Other than the hair he doesn't look much like he did when he was first born back in November.

I hated seeing the tube up his nose!

We've come a long way since those days in the NICU. I'm willing to bet Harry will be double his birth weight at his doctor's appointment on Friday. As you guys know he's doing great and is eating like a champ. He's been oddly consistent about eating seven times a day since four or five weeks old. According to some literature I have from Similac, babies Harry's age shouldn't be eating quite so frequently. To try and eliminate a meal or two I'm going to increase the amount of formula he gets at each feeding. Cross your fingers it works for us!

New Comments Section
I've always hated the comments section on Blogger. For some reason you've never been able to reply to a specific comment, making it difficult and confusing. Blogger finally got the hint and added that handy dandy little feature. Soooo, leave me a comment! Even if you don't have a Blogger account you can still comment on Blogger blogs, so no excuses :). Now, if only they would add emoticons so my smiley faces don't look like old school text messages.

Buh-Bye Hormones

10 weeks postpartum my pregnancy hormones are going away. At least, that's what I assume is happening. And I don't like it one bit.

Sure, I'm no longer the crazy bitch I was during my pregnancy, but that's mostly because Ant hasn't been too big of an asshole the past month. Truth be told, I'd rather be the crazy bitch with crazy thick hair than the nice balding lady... which is what I'm turning in to. Seriously, my hair is everywhere. EV.RY.WHERE. Except my head, of course. Ant pulled a strand out of his meatloaf the other night, oops.

In addition to my disappearing tresses, my face looks like the seventh grade exploded on it. Uggh. I've never had great skin but it really cleared up during my second trimester. I finally felt like an adult because I no longer had to dab goop on my face every night. Short lived relief unfortunately.

I've always been able to grow my nails out but they got crazy long during my pregnancy, it was awesome! They're still kind of long but I have been filing them down a bit so I don't scratch Harry. I have a feeling that before long they'll all start breaking and peeling.

Guess I better add Rogaine and Proactiv to my shopping list!

Double Digits

Lots of posts on TAW today!

Harry D is officially 10 weeks old today... double digits! These 10 weeks have just flown by, but they've been pretty darn amazing. I really can't imagine my life without this little guy attached to my hip. As far as milestones go, he is behind on a few of them. He's still not smiling a whole lot. This evening he was actually cooing a bunch and threw in a few smiles so I'm hopeful he'll be Mr. Smiley by our pediatrician appointment on Friday. If he isn't I'll bring it up as a potential concern.

In the meantime, here's a picture I snapped of Harry and Daddy last night.

Awwwww. Here are a couple I took this afternoon.

And here he is after I had to change his outfit, he's kind of smiling!

Tonight I made Hamburger Helper with a twist. We don't eat red meat (I did a bit while I was pregnant), so instead of using ground beef I used ground turkey. I've done this before and it worked out really well. I haven't had real Hamburger Helper in probably a decade, so I can't compare the taste, but I highly suggest using the ground turkey to healthify it a bit. I used the Cheesy Italian Shells flavor and prepared the meal according to the recipe on the box.
